Reflective Insights
Reflective Insights give you a snapshot of how students experienced class over a chosen date range, so you can quickly see reflective patterns across your classes and identify students who need support.
Before you start, set your Targets. Reflective Insights uses them to calculate the percentage of students who hit your target scale level. See Insights: My Targets.
Navigating Reflective Insights
- Go to the Insights page.
- Select the date range you want to review.
- To focus on specific classes, click Filters and select them.
- Scroll to the Reflective Insights section, or jump to it by selecting the pencil icon in the right-side menu.
Each reflective question has its own section, consisting of three parts: Headline Metrics, Themes, and Responses to Read.
Understanding Headline Metrics
Headline metrics appear first for each reflective question. For scale-level questions, you’ll see the percentage of students who hit your target scale level during the selected date range.
For multi-select questions, you’ll see the 5 most frequent selections during the date range.
Understanding Themes
Below the headline metrics, on the left, you’ll see Themes. Feedback Forward uses AI to read all written responses to the reflective questions within the selected date range, then surfaces recurring themes and the number of times students mentioned each one.
Understanding Responses to Read
Below the headline metrics, on the right, you’ll see Responses to Read. From that same set of written responses, AI also surfaces the highest-value responses that may need your follow-up. Each Response to Read shows the student’s verbatim response, name, response date, and class. Scroll to see all the responses.
From each Response to Read, you can also:
- Click the date to open the exit ticket summary and view more granular information about the exit ticket the response came from.
- Click a student’s name to open their summary.
A Note on Themes and Responses to Read
Sometimes, even when students write responses to a reflective question within your date range, you won’t see Themes or Responses to Read. This happens when none of the responses are substantial enough to emerge as a theme or be highlighted as a Response to Read.
When that happens, you’ll see one of three things:
- No Themes and no Responses to Read
- Themes, but no Responses to Read
- No themes, but Responses to Read
