Understanding and Responding to Fast Feedback Insights

What can I learn from the Daily Fast Feedback by Scale Level Insight?

 

One of the most important strategies for integrating data into practice is to recognize patterns and identify when those patterns change. This is true no matter which of the visuals you are focused on. Make these questions part of your routine to understand and respond to whatever data you are viewing:

  • What is typical? 
  • When do I notice a difference from what is typical? 

 

 

What this visual can tell me:

  • distribution of feedback I gave each day across the selected date range based on the class, criteria, and student filters applied
  • distribution of one or more specific levels of feedback 
    • select or unselect boxes in the upper right to control which feedback levels are visible (see visual on right side with only “Achieving” and “Excelling”)

What this visual cannot tell me:

  • how frequently I gave feedback to specific students or classes
  • the number of feedback sessions each day
  • the number of students I gave feedback to

 

Engage with the data:

  • What do I envision as an appropriate distribution of feedback? How does what’s represented in the visual compare with what I expect?
  • How did the daily breakdown of the feedback I gave change over the past week? 
  • When filtered to specific students or classes: What did I expect to see across the selected date range? How does the visual compare with the feedback I expected for this student or class? 

Reflect on practice:

  • How might what I learned from the visual inform how I approach giving feedback over the next week?
  • How does the distribution of feedback inform my lesson plans or student supports I have planned?
  • For a specific class: How might what I learned from the visual help me understand how this class performs throughout the week?
  • For a specific student: How might what I learned from the visual inform how I plan to support this student in the coming week?
